Batik is an exciting technique used to create paintings on cloth utilizing hot melted wax and special
dyes. It is an ancient art form that originated in Indonesia and is still very popular today while screen
printing is a newer art form in which is still used today to create designs on T-shirts. This
month
long
beginning fabric design class will specialize in learning the ancient artwork of batik and the
newer art form of screen printing in order to create unique designs on different types of fabric
including muslin, canvas bags, and T-shirts.
Introduction to Watercolor Painting - Realistic or Abstract
January 25 - February 29, 2012. Wednesdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
Cost: $20 per class or $120 per session.
This beginner watercolor painting class will give an introduction in using watercolor and show
students how to use a wide variety of different techniques in order to become successful at
watercolor painting.
After studying some different tricks and techniques of watercolor, students will
be given a choice of doing a realistic or abstract painting. For those doing a realistic painting, we
will be working from a photograph or from one's own imagination, and for those wanting to learn
more about abstract art, we will be drawing to music and then transferring our drawing into a
beautiful painting.
This class is designed to help students become proficient enough in using
watercolor paint that they will be able to create their own
unique paintings on their own.
Fun with Mixed-Media Painting
March 14 - April 25, 2012. Wednesdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Cost: $20 per class or $120 per session.
In this fun and exciting class, we will be learning how to use a wide variety of different drawing,
painting, printmaking, and sculptural media in order to create our own unique artworks that have a
specific meaning. Like a lot of my own artwork, I love exploring lots of different media in order to
create a message or meaning to the viewer, and this way I can make the most out of each media
that I'm using. We will first experiment with a wide variety of different media, then draw out an idea,
and then create an artwork using at least five different types of media. It should be lots of fun and a
new way to be very creative with your artwork!
